Urinary 1-hydroxypyrene is used as a biological index for the assessment of an exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). Many individual PAHs are genotoxic carcinogens and are formed by the incomplete combustion of fossis fuels.

The ClinTox® complete kit of RECIPE is designed for the automated determination of urinary 1-hydroxypyrene in order to estimate an environmental or occupational related PAH exposure. The sample preparation is performed on-line by column switching technique using a highly selective SPE-column (SPE: solid phase extraction).
